A fun exercise on how to give an object character and, above all, create the illusion of 3D in a 2D video.
The goal is to bring the surface of the ball to life by creating a UV map made of multiple looping frames to generate movement. The surface style is created with dry brush strokes to give texture to the ball.
To give the sphere a three-dimensional feel in line with the texture style, shadows and highlights were created using a halftone effect—overlapping dots that mimic old newspaper prints. A strong reflection on the ball adds a glossy point, emphasizing its spherical shape.
